Architecture studio AMAA has transformed a former print house in Arzignano, Italy, into a new art gallery called Threshold and Treasure. The gallery has been created for the cultural association Atipografia, and features a concrete gateway at its entrance. The former warehouse has been extended with concrete, glass, and steel additions, and the gallery is characterised by a sequence of thresholds.
These begin with a concave concrete gateway that doubles as a seating area, leading through to small gardens that offer a buffer between the tranquil gallery spaces and the street. AMAA has described the entrance as having a dual function as an urban system and a work of art.

Visitors can then walk through a series of small gardens before encountering a guesthouse for visiting artists. The original warehouse structure has been converted into exhibition spaces that open onto a garden that is enclosed by a U-shaped extension in glass and steel.
The gallery’s entrance is sheltered beneath a concrete metal canopy, and an external concrete staircase leads to the site’s upper level. AMAA has left all existing surfaces in their rough, textured state to contrast with the modern additions. The studio has experience in adaptive reuse projects, having created its own studio in another factory building in Arzignano last year.
