Throughout history, there have been numerous predictions that technology would lead to the destruction of civilization. However, despite these doomsday predictions, humanity has not yet become obsolete. So why do we continue to give credibility to the doomsday clock, which has yet to be right even once?
While words are indeed powerful and the law of attraction can manifest things into existence, the fear and scare tactics being used to manipulate the public about bleeding-edge technology cannot be countered by emitting positive energy. It is easy to become convinced that generative AI will render us all jobless or worse, dead. However, this level of conviction is unwarranted given the amount of uncertainty surrounding the impact of AI.
Despite recognizing the inherent bias in AI and its propensity to generate false information, many people still believe in its promise. It has the potential to redefine industries and create a paradigm shift like no other technology before it. However, AI will not destroy the world or replace creatives, as some may suggest. It will replace those who believe that it will, and when it is done with them, it will target other subsets of people.
One of the ways that AI measures success is by its ability to mimic humans. However, despite being referred to as “intelligence,” AI is designed to regurgitate existing content that it has nicely formatted. This is essentially glorified plagiarism. Without creatives to generate new content for AI to pull from, it will eventually start repeating itself without any evolution. As a result, it is crucial to recognize that humans are AI's power source. Without humans, AI cannot function.
It is essential to acknowledge this fact because the fearmongering surrounding technology is causing highly skilled individuals to question their value in the future. However, AI is trying to be us, not the other way around. We should never lose sight of what makes us human, and if we face the possibility of catastrophic mass extinction, it will likely be at our own hands rather than an AI-powered robotic one.
In summary, while the impact of AI is still uncertain, we should not allow fear and scare tactics to control our perception of its potential. We should instead recognize that AI's success is dependent on humans and that it is trying to be us, not the other way around. We should never lose sight of what makes us human and strive to use technology to better our world while avoiding the potential for self-destruction.
